When attempting to wear fashion or fashion accessories that incorporate lace, one simple reminder should help keep you away from the fashion police: With lace, less is always more, according to Teen Vogue. A little bit of lace often goes a long way, as too much lace makes it appear as though you got snared in a hunter’s net. With that in mind, follow these other simple tips for the best ways to wear lace. Other creative ideas for fashion can come from earning a master’s of fine arts degree. Lace with Denim Might Not Work
Lace and denim don’t always go together. Lace looks much better on skirts and dresses, usually as a fringe pattern on the edge of such garments. However, a pair of jeans with a blouse or some other top that is completely made of lace is a big mistake – wearing this combination can make people look like they’re trying to bring back ‘80s fashion, which many of us would rather forget. However, clothing with a sparse amount of lace (lighter in color is better) can give you a fun look for the day or evening.
The Smaller the Lace Pattern the Better
This bit of advice is well aligned with our warning about less is more for lace. People who wear lace in big, sizeable patterns have a hard time pulling off a look of sophistication and tend to look somewhat retro – like they’ve been shopping in their grandmother’s closet. Much more preferable by far are fine patterns of lace, in relatively discreet areas of one’s clothing.
Try Not to Wear Too Much Jewelry with Lace
Usually, lace works best as its own accessory. A flashy amount of jewelry tends to counteract the effect of lace, and can easily turn a tastefully simple outfit to something tacky. If any jewelry must be worn, try to match it to the colors of the lace on your clothes – dark with dark, and light with light colors. Simple, indiscriminate earrings go best with outfits that have been adorned in lace.
Highlight Lace with Bright Colors
As mentioned earlier, the lighter colors tend to work best with lace. Therefore, a cute ensemble could consist of white or cream-colored lace top that is neatly tucked into a saffron- or vermillion-colored skirt. Bright colors are best, as the contrast highlights both the lace and the skirt itself.
